2 False Shadows

There is a divine vapor permeating redeemed souls but yet to be received by their redeemed minds. This is an appraisal I make, an assessment I now share - western Christians continue blinded to the claims of the Cross.

Was Jesus just horsing around when He taught:

Then Jesus said to them all: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me." (Luke 9:23)

Jesus gave little and asked for no self-restraint when He claimed:

“If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be my disciple." (Luke 14:26)

How long until those who claim the comforts of heaven will also admit, even permit the discomforts of earth?

Who will first sit down and seek the Lord's will asking what will you have me do?

Jim Elliot's (a young missionary martyred by Auca warriors in Ecuador - 1956) heartbeat still benefits all who would lift a spiritual stethoscope - he is no fool who gives up what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.

Christians' continue life under two false shadows, ignoring the fact that shadows depart when the night arrives. These shadows are:

  • the belief that their lives belong to themselves and
  • the belief that the future is theirs to determine.

Both these shady beliefs are fatally wrong.

Christians are fully competent at prioritising the carnal, yet so often fail miserably in elevating the spiritual. Who will...

  • deny themselves that they may devote themselves to be close to the Lord?
  • sit at His feet before they will serve at His shop?
  • live as an alien upon earth simply travelling to home?

It ill becomes a servant to seek to be rich and great and honored in that world where his Lord was poor and mean and despised. ~ George Mueller
