A Shallow Heart's Lament

Attitudes of gratitude can be intensely difficult to muster. It is as easy to miss grace as it is to find offence.

Sometimes it is simply wise to stop in life and take stock with the Lord. Cast the eyes rearward for He was first kindly present then and is too now.

Father, I have asked you for so much, so frequently, so diligently and held the faith. I have been relentless in my pursuit of you to amend that which I can't, supply what I want and to smile into the frowns that surround; I am so sorry I have persistently neglected the time for thanks:

  • thanks for forgiving me for not saying thanks
  • thanks for the thanks you are pouring into me now
  • thanks for all the unseen grace and unknown favors
  • thanks for the rides upon Your eagles and Your footprints in my sand
  • thanks for the indwelling of Your counselling Spirit
  • thanks for the cool of Your shadow and the warmth of Your touch
  • thanks for the Divine silence as You attentively listen, and
  • thanks for the supply of yesterday, the dew of today and the manna you will drop tomorrow.

No-one can rob me of this thanks, steal my hope or snatch my faith for these you have planted within.

It is hard to say a deep thanks when I have a shallow heart - but as much as I can, I do want to say  -THANK YOU from the very bottom of my heart. AMEN

It ought to be as habitual to us to thank as it is to ask. ~ C.H. Spurgeon

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. (Philippians 4:6)
