Confessions of a Struggling Soul...#

Yes, I know my motives are all wrong.

Deep down, everything is for self.

I say I love God and people, but do I really love them? Really?

The depths of my heart still drown in my love of me.

Someone once accused me:

”You  don’t love Jesus, you only love yourself.”

And so I reflected:

“That’s true. So what is the point of trying to be good, of attempting to live a godly life? Wouldn’t it be more honest to just give up and cease striving?”

That thought grew louder and LOUDER and LOUDER – UNTIL – until one day I intolerantly chided myself:

“OK, even if my motives are all wrong, I will still try to do what is right. Even if in the end it’s only for me, I will still try to love God.

To this day my choice remains the same:

“pursue righteousness and a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness.” (1 Timothy 6:11)

Then I will always rest, trusting alone in God’s mercy and grace.#
