Enemy 3 ~ Corralling Impatience#

Soul Snack 189/14 ... Impatience is first bound in the agony of a man's soul. The impatient man seeks to salve his soul with immediate well-being. It is a controlling impulse and does not dwell in the house roofed by wisdom.

Impatience and impulsiveness are blood brothers. Each strives to take today what may not even belong to tomorrow. This accelerated acquiring defeats reason, but does yield a brief fine feeling. Both these brothers' hunt for comfort with strength difficult to resist. The presence of comfort is the absence of impatience, for then there are reserves within.

Impatience is culled from a lost intimacy; it is darkened by the persistent absence of earthly comfort.

Impatience clads the feet that fly to action, while impulsiveness lubricates the lips for premature response.

Whoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick-tempered displays folly. (Proverbs 14:29)

Impatience lives the divine principle of premature taking and sabotages both this day and the future. Remember the lost son in Luke 15:11-31 who snatched his inheritance, lost it and then faced off with self-destruction? He was so hurried, so impatient - he lost his good today in an ill-judged haste to reach tomorrow.

If maturity is the ability to delay reward, impatience is the inability to delay comfort.

In the hurry to reach tomorrow, in the rushed seeking of what is next, the good of NOW is lost.

There is a wisdom that can secure today well:

the painful rhythms dwelling within a soul that drive it forward are not to be released but corralled.

Impatience cannot add speed to time, or hasten peace to the soul.

Today's Soul Snippet:

"I thought I was somebody so God couldn't use me, then I learned I was nobody so God drew close to me." ~ Michael Cartwright
