GIVING - 5 do's, 4 facts & 3 don'ts

'Giving' could be defined as the fine art of self-denial, choosing for the virtue of loss. But is giving always so noble?

Your money can make you an overseas missionary without ever leaving your home town, an evangelist without ever mounting a platform, a broadcaster without ever entering a studio, a Bible teacher without ever opening a book. ~ anon

5 DOs:

  1. Give generously, for God loves a cheerful giver. Grudging giving is a sign of absent grace. (2 Corinthians 9:6-7)
  2. Give without finding fault, for it is a man's inmost being the Lord examines, not the gift's destination. (James 1:4, Proverbs 20:27)
  3. Plan your giving in trust before the Lord. Your giving precedes your saving. (1 Corinthians 16:2)
  4. Excel in the grace of giving. (2 Corinthians 8:7)
  5. Be kind to the poor for this is a lending to the Lord. (Proverbs 19:17a)

4 FACTS:

  1. Tithing is where the giving begins, not ends. Tithing turns a Christian into a Pharisee, generosity can't.
  2. Those who trust in their riches shall fall. (Proverbs 11:28)
  3. It is a greater blessing and joy to give than to receive. (Acts 20:35)
  4. No man has ever 'out-given' God. (Matthew 19:29)

3 DON'Ts:

  1. Do not give that you are hard pressed, but that there might be equality. (2 Corinthians 8:13)
  2. Do not delay your giving when it is within your power, do not say come back tomorrow. (Proverbs 3:27-28)
  3. Do not withhold unduly, for poverty will come. (Proverbs 11:24b)

A generous action is its own reward. ~ William Walsh

A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will be refreshed. (Proverbs 11:25)
