WHO AM I - I take all & Give nothing?#

Ruins extend worldwide. They are the promise of a history to be remembered and learnt from, a decaying witness to yesterday and its decisions.

History's destructions cannot be repaired, for each is a 'living ruin'. But maybe, just maybe at a human level there can be repair if healing is discovered for the terrors and loss a man carries within.

Many a ruined man would know this ruination:

I am more powerful than the combined armies of the world.

I have destroyed more men and women than all the wars of the nation.

I have caused more accidents and wrecked more homes than hurricanes, floods and pestilence put together.

I find my victims among the poor, the bold, the young, the old, the strong and the weak.

I am everywhere - in the home, on the street, in the office, in factories, on the seas and in the skies.

I am relentless, insidious, powerful, unpredictable and impatient.

I bring only sickness, poverty and death.

I take all and give nothing.

I am your worse enemy.

I am alcohol.# ~ anon

Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has contentions? Who has complaints? Who has wounds without cause? Who has redness of eyes?

30 Those who linger long at the wine, those who go in search of mixed wine.
31

Do not look on the wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it swirls around smoothly;
32

At the last it bites like a serpent, and stings like a viper.
33

Your eyes will see strange things, and your heart will utter perverse things.
34

Yes, you will be like one who lies down in the midst of the sea,

Or like one who lies at the top of the mast, saying:

“They have struck me, but I was not hurt; they have beaten me, but I did not feel it. When shall I awake, that I may seek another drink? (Proverbs 23:29-35)

Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control. (Proverbs 25:28)
