Living in a Nervous Age

The insecurities of life rattle all hearts, wrinkle all brows and pound all souls.

These increasingly anxious days arrive as sure as yesterday is as unavailable as tomorrow. Yet mankind vainly attempts to control all.

Tozer cast his thoughts beyond this mortal coil, way past human ability to control and thus thought far better.

May the knowledge of God's eternity not be wasted upon me! We who live in this nervous age would be wise to meditate on our days and our lives long and often before the face of God and the edge of eternity. For we are made for eternity as certainly as we are made for time, and as responsible moral beings we must deal with both.#

So teach us to number our days aright, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. (Psalm 90:12)

To be made for eternity and forced to dwell in time is for mankind a tragedy of huge proportions. All within us cries for life and permanence, and everything around reminds us of mortality and change. Yet that God has made us of the stuff of eternity is both a glory and a prophecy, a glory yet to be realised and a prophecy yet to be fulfilled.#

He has set eternity within the heart of man. (Ecclesiastes 3:11)

The deepest instincts of any human heart know - to live, eat and draw breath just for this day is as short as eternity is long.
