`MIND GAMES ~ A Birthday Week Preview

James Morrison's trumpet warms my ears with 'To God Be the Glory' as I plan, prepare and pray over the upcoming week's SoulSnacks. My heart sings as the CD circles. It also happens to be the week of SoulSupply's tenth birthday.

The world is a vastly different place from the birth of the first SoulSnack in 2005.

Without a prophetic acumen it was impossible to foretell the increase of wickedness upon us today - both within and without Christ's body, His church. Today I see what I do not want to see.

The first SoulSnack drew its first breath in July 2005. It was written under the banner of 'SoulFood' but that was quickly changed in number two to 'SoulSnack'. Named 'Thinking Well', it and all other SoulSnacks were only published weekly until 2008, on Mondays. The original database was around twenty-five recipients. Now they now circulate to over thirty nations daily.

'Thinking Well' began with Psalm 139:17 and concluded with:

God very selflessly wants us to share His thinking. This is easy for God, He has an infinte number of thoughts to share.

(This SoulSnack was never available online but an edited/updated version was reproduced in 2013 renamed 'Mind Wealth'.)

The world and the Christian Church now hungers little to share the mind of the Lord, immerse themselves in His joy-filled purity and His call to righteousness. Over the past decade grace has morphed into licentiousness; lust has been translated into love. Indicative of this is Vladimir Putin who now warns the west is a Godless Sewer. If the wish to share God's mind was present this cancerous decay would be absent.

A decade on and God still seeks to share His unchanging and perfect thoughts with each of us, but this is becoming harder for both Him and us, as weeds now grow into trees.

The righteousness of God lingers lightly these days upon the western Christian's soul. Who will cry for the lost, and the Christians falling into the abyss of unrighteous activity, imagining that a false 'love' (lust) trumps righteousness. There can be no true love if it is not built upon righteousness. Righteousness is God's firm foundation of true love. Righteousness (not love, not theology, not popular opinion) is God's ONLY measuring line.

The pedestal of love is righteousness.

So it is with this in mind that SoulSnacks celebrate their tenth birthday. Coming up are:

  • The Wind of Righteousness
  • The Perfect Storm of Grace
  • False Grace and
  • Love's Pedestal

To conclude then where I began and listening to the final CD track - James Morrison's trumpet instrumental of "The Old Rugged Cross" appropriately tugs at my heart and soothes my soul. Isn't that where our minds should be fixed upon - "The Old Rugged Cross"?

Surely it is until we meet our Lord that we each remain only a righteous beggar at our Messiah's scarred feet?
