Of Desire & Thirst

A desire is no more a thirst than a rock-slide is an earthquake.

Desire knocks on doors, but thirst kicks them down.

Thirsts both occupy and demand attention. They are the results of depletions.

Thirsts will move hell and high-water to be met.

Thirsts count no obstacles and brook no competitors.

Thirsts rarely measure the costs to gain the satisfaction. They will blast mountains.

Familiar with suffering and the thirsts pain creates the Psalmist gazed within:

As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pants for you, my God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When can I go and meet with God?
My tears have been my food
    day and night (Psalm 42:1-3a)

Suffering creates thirsts. It is when the thirsts are satisfied the pain is lost.

The Psalmist concludes with hope:

Why, my soul, are you downcast?
    Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God. (Psalm 42:11)

Duty does not create a willing spirit, merely a submissive spirit.

Devotion is the product of thirst. It is the highest of pleasures. Delight in the Lord is the harvest of pain well audited.
