Omnipotence Wrapped in Humanity

A vacancy came into heaven. It filled a manger. God was born on earth. That is the first Christmas.

Christmas became:

Omnipotence wrapped in the bonds of my own fragile humanity. (Brennan Manning)

The enormity of this gift first formulated in eternity defies all human apprehension. It still eludes the world it is given to.

Jesus made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. (Philippians 2:7)

Universally clothed in this annual festival of goodwill and grace is Heaven's unseen ability -- that ability to literally reach through the very darkness of space with the gift of light and life to earth.

With an annual precision heaven's vacancy snatches at my attention, but yet again so easily escapes my Christmas times.

The manger in Bethlehem, this insignificant landing pad of God on earth shouts out in its divine humanity:

seek the simple, be sure to honor the humble and lay hold of salvation.

Since that first Christmas this God-babe has irrevocably offered a reversed and good future to mere mortals.

Omnipotence wrapped in the bonds of my own fragile humanity fought for me, and has never sought to elude me. Instead He seeks to empty the full and fill the empty.

Christmas is a baby still acting as my God, well before I ever made Him my God.
