Professional Fodder

Soul Snack 61/13 ... Professional Fodder

Empty fishing nets hauled in with weather beaten and time tortured hands gave little indication of the professional skills those hands held.

These sodden nets dripped failure across arms and decks alike. The boat's timbers were more familiar with flapping, distressed fish than empty netting.

Seven weary Galilean fishermen previously soaked in confidence and experience had failed. The empty nets were a clarion testimony to this. All night they had been defeated; all efforts fruitless. Success could only come now through external intervention. A friendly direction, a kind invitation would soon reverse their circumstance.

Jesus called out to them, "Friends, haven't you any fish?" "No," they answered. He said, "Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some." When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish. (Jn 21:5-6)

Surely such luckless seafarers recoiled at this stranger's presumptuous direction. Surely their insides screamed - why?

This exceptional near-dawn encounter with an alive Jesus must have challenged both their energy, expertise and better judgements. Obedience alone had led to success.

Yet, the humble professional can be taught by Jesus. There is no professional who can outperform Jesus in their own area of expertise for He who made the fish still knows where the fish are.

LIsten obediently to the resurrected Jesus who will resurrect your morning or even your life.

Today's Soul Snippet:

If Good Friday is satan standing between God and man, Easter Sunday is God standing over a fallen satan.
