Recently a European artist appeared on TV, he explained his favorite religion was paganism as it had no concept of sin. (This thought leaves an undue comfort within a highly indulgent world knowing no concept of tomorrow or judgement.)
Christendom seems to follow suit. It wants to lovingly (tolerantly) co-exist with a world heading to hell in a hand-basket. In a too common twist of fortunes, immorality receives Christian license as the Word of God is imprisoned.
Love the sinner and hate the sin ... or so the old story goes. This is true, yet the time must come when 'sin is called out' and named for what it truly is - rebellion against God, even if it risks the ire of the sinner.
Reinhard Bonnke sagely describes the value to escaping sin:
Jesus has not come to make the prison cell of sin more comfortable for the prisoners – He has come to set them free.
The Gospel of Jesus Christ is not a Gospel of renovation or decoration, but of liberation!
Sure, keep loving sinners but also risk the offence and call out the sin; for if a hundred sinners hear your plea and ninety-nine are offended, there will still be one hugging you ever-so tightly for a mighty long time.
What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? (Roms 6:1-2)
The call to sinners is for sin detonation not sin continuation.
