Searching for Stillness

Soul Snack 114/11 ... Searching for stillness

A soul-lifting sunrise speaks of calm.

The post-dawn chirping of bright little beaks promises well-being.

Undisturbed, flaxen wheat fields invite peace.

The becalmed sailing boat enforces stillness.

White wisps of floating fairy-floss engage the mind to wonder.

Towering and unmoving trees, sentinels to a bygone century, command gazing. Their unchallenged power expressed without any movement.

God has so constructed His world that it continually presents us the opportunity to stop, enjoy and especially withdraw.

To the aware - they have senses that seek, even search for stillness.

To the unaware - they too will thirst for stillness, but not know how to be quenched.

The soul knows it needs to be fed even when the body doesn't.

Jesus knew His soul -- He would feed His first each day.

"Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed." (Mk 1:35)
