The Danger of Dry Bones

Where the bones are dry bones spiritual death is alive; sin is nigh.

When dry bones are present a disciple's pride (unseen by the disciple) angles to take him for a fall.

The following is reported from a young Scottish firebrand Robert Murray McCheyne (1813-1843):

I am tempted to think that I am now an established Christian, that I have overcome this or that lust so long, that I have got into the habit of the opposite grace, so that there is no fear; I may venture very near the temptation — nearer than other men. This is a lie of Satan. One might as well speak of gunpowder getting by habit of resisting fire, so as not to catch spark. As long as powder is wet, it resists the spark; but when it becomes dry, it is ready to explode at the first touch. As long as the Spirit dwells in my heart, He deadens me to sin, so that, if lawfully called through temptation, I may reckon upon God carrying me through. But when the Spirit leaves me, I am like dry gunpowder. Oh for a sense of this!

Resist the devil, do not entertain him. Pour no lawful (sinful) slab that permits satan to land, and then visit into your life.

Steal all satan's footholds from him and he will flee.

Those with the dry bones, un-dampened by the Holy Spirit's life protecting flow, foolishly (naively?) attempt to walk too close sin. The pleasure of sinful and then painful loss knocks upon their door.

It is the water of life, the Holy Spirit of Truth alone who can instruct the Christian to correctly divide good from evil.

But when He, the Holy Spirit of Truth comes, He will guide you into all truth... (John 16:13a)

Daily choose prayer for the life-giving, sin resisting, soul refreshing infilling of Jesus' Holy Spirit.

Each disciple upon God's earth daily needs a dose of the Ghost.
