The Enemy of Love

Soul Snack 125/14 ... With a now memorable disappointment, I read last century an aging journalist's singular top tip for life. He was about 64 when he penned his piece. He had been married three times. Below is his life-learned wisdom, a tip worthy of forgetting to this pretending youthful mind.

What I have learned in life is that you must always follow your heart.

A life of severed marriages (and subsequent relational carnage), were the only supports he could offer for his elderly and worn wisdom. In fact the truth is; wisdom had fled out his door long ago.

Conversely, Jesus spoke as a youthful sage. He even summarised all God's wisdom, thus making it easy for at least me to learn.

His TOP TIPS for life are glaringly well supported by Calvary:

Jesus replied: ‘“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: “Love your neighbour as yourself. (Matthew 22:37-39)

Note the order of Jesus' tips, the heart first flows to the Lord, before it can ever pour with health towards others.

There remains a divinely appointed order to love.

It is from this near impossible activity that I will only ever get my eyes off self.

Self-inspection (and then self-direction) has been the enemy of love since Genesis 3. It is the first corrupting evil from the Tree of Knowledge.
