The Highest Activity Man Can Engage In

The Scriptures are clear about the potency of prayer.

"The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man", wrote the inspired James,"availeth much". With this the whole Bible and Christian experience agree: PRAYER IS EFFECTIVE. When it is not answered something is wrong.

The same apostle who affirmed the effective power of prayer admitted also that prayer is sometimes ineffective: "ye ask and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts".

In spite of the difficulties surrounding prayer it is still the highest activity in which a human being can engage. Knowing all about prayer and all about people our Lord said, "men ought always to pray and not to faint".#

The enduring guile of satan is to lie to us, to contradict The Word and so disarm the power of prayer against him.

Satan has diluted prayer's power to become simply the auditor of our shopping list we assail the Lord's ears with each day.

Prayer emptied of power makes those upon their knees dis-spirited and faint, consequently prayer falls to the wayside and satan rubs his hands in glee.

Tozer concludes:

To pray effectively we must want what God wants.

OR a SoulSupply edit:

To pray effectively we first hunger and thirst for the righteousness that God lives, for this is what He offers.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. (Matthew 5:6)
