The Stunted Short Horizons Of Those Who Will Not See

I love a timid country

A land of scare campaigns

Where mindless bogan slogans

Just overtake our brains.

The stunted short horizons

Of those who will not see

Who, when presented with alternative

Still plead - ME, ME, ME! ~ anon

I fail to see I am so often in a pauper's jail, for this thinking of mine is common to men and largely bankrupt.

How precious to me are your thoughts O God, how vast is the sum of them. (Psalm 139:17)

OH, to echo the Psalmist, but frankly I can't.

I am entirely consumed in my own thoughts to consider another's.

Deadlines, desires and the daily grind conspire against any dalliance with God from me.

My thoughts are fuelled by my emotion, missed opportunities, covetousness or simply my previous conversation.

Each demands my attention with a soul-rattling, indulgent cacophony.

Yet our God remains in the thinking business.

The question becomes not just will I spare a thought for God today -- it is rather will I 'peer' into His mind and participate in His divine nature? Thus, escaping the corruption of the world. (See 2 Peter 1:3 & 4)

His thoughts will bring me blessing; so often my thoughts will only yield burden.

God selflessly wants me to share His thinking. His desire is to remove the harm and futility of my mind, and to invest His thinking into in my thoughts. This is simple for God. He has an infinite number of wealthy thoughts to share. These are another of His investments in me, for me.

His mind is never bankrupt. (Then mine can't be either if I choose Him.)

The soul who refuses to think like God remains an intellectual pauper.

It is the soul who treasures God's precious thoughts that will enjoy true intellectual prosperity. They will gaze too at far away horizons.
