The Place Reached by Waiting

The story is told of an ageing lady who had waited long upon the Lord. This woman was well accustomed to stopping and stillness. She frequented His presence and enjoyed much divine richness, seeking out no one. She was pained when separated for any duration from her heavenly Father. Her soul regularly echoed the Psalmist, as the deer pants for the water so my soul longs after You.

This devoted lady's heart was soft and tender, yet permeated by a self-doubt as she continued to wait.

She loved to wear the Lord's comfortable shoes of peace. These she would slide on each morning, very early. She held high expectations of her Lord, loved Him dearly and was confident in His promises. But, the wait had been so long.

Time had proved she knew little fear of her unknown future. To her mind the good Lord tarried, but she too even doubted herself upon this reflection.

Daily the Lord continued to feed her His sweetest of manna from heaven's storehouse. She loved this so much that she prayed to never lose it. Although keenly aware her days were numbered she was well convinced her best days for Him were yet to come.

The Lord had been most deliberate in the delivery of His promises to her. He had examined the ageing lady's heart to see if she would be faithful in the waiting. The Lord saw her heart and was pleased. Yet He knew this mature lady was still learning to fully grasp her own heart. Hence, He too waited.

I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in His word I put my hope. I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning. (Psalm 130:5-6)

While we wait upon the Lord, He in fact can be waiting upon us.
