Soul Snack 227/14 ... Christian pilgrims to this day scour ecclesiastical meadows for a sheltering bough, a green pasture or quiet waters from a blustering pulpit - the scattering shepherd. You may be one such pilgrim?

What is happening in this Christian generation? I strongly fear there are more Christians leaving protestant denominations than joining them.

Proud assertive doctrine creates vulnerable wandering sheep. They now 'shop' the church and find no delight in its graveyards, hewn stones, serial sermons or rigid pews. The sheep are exiled from a body of believers, chased as a thief might be, blown away by a ritual of teaching theology that replaces loving relationship.

Pastors and clergy alike shove and shoulder their sheep under the false permission of correct learning. Those who disagree can only flee; then dangerously wander until a haven may be stumbled upon.

Too many doctrines have been cast across the Cross of Christ. They have smothered its Holy Spirit fire as a blanket chokes a flame from air.

It ill becomes a pastor to shepherd theology and scatter the flock. The call of Jesus is first to the cure of souls and not the care of doctrine.

The power and pride of knowledge rules the Bride of Christ as the Tree of Knowledge is lord of this world.

Woe to the shepherds who have not strengthened the weak or healed those who are ill or bound up the injured. You have not brought back the strays or searched for the lost. You have ruled them harshly and brutally. (Ezekiel 34:4)

What if the church that Jesus is building looks more like wildflowers strewn across an alpine meadow than a walled garden with manicured hedges? ~ Wayne Jacobsen
