Unknown, Unseen but Perfect for God.
One day an enquirer questioned St Francis of Assisi (1181-1226) as to why God called him, Francis humbly replied:
God picks the weakest, the smallest, the meanest of men on the face of the earth, and He uses them.
God does not think Himself superior to those the world thinks inferior.
God sees those man doesn't...
God honors those man can't...
God listens to those man won't... BUT
God will share His glory with no proud man.
Consider these lost, least, last and lonely Bible greats below, these earlier shadows to St Francis - all called of God:
- Joseph a youngest son and a despised brother
- Moses a murderous shepherd, hidden in the wilderness
- Gideon the weakest and the least
- Saul (the king) who was from the smallest tribe and the least clan, and
- Peter an impulsive, unschooled and ordinary fisherman.
As you would expect St Francis was correct, for:
the Lord never seeks performers, He looks for reformers - those undesiring of position, unaccustomed to accolades, unfamiliar with the public eye and very settled in their anonymity.
The Lord looks for people who already know they can do nothing without Him, but everything with Him. Such disciples are trustworthy for they are not given to avarice or pride, nor will they rebel.
Jesus stands before and beside those whose heads hang low in humility while their hearts are held high in adoration.
God does not call the qualified, but qualifies the called.
