Soul Snack 5/12 ... Romero's self-eulogy
On March 24th 1980 while celebrating his Catholic mass with hands extended as if to welcome heaven Archbishop Oscar Romero of El Salvador was himself welcomed to heaven through an assassins bullet.
Below is a poignant and prophetic quote I am advised was from his final sermon that fatal morning.
'The kingdom is not only beyond our efforts; it is beyond our vision. We accomplish in our life-time only a tiny fraction of the magnificent enterprise that is God's work. We may never see the end results, but that is the difference between the master builder and the worker.
We are workers, not master builders, not ministers, not messiahs. We are prophets of a future not our own.’
Hmm ... kinda takes our lives away from petty desires, resentments, passions and personal rights. Romero places our lives into a liberating righteous and humble orbit that must tackle any self-importance which rests upon our efforts and is stored upon our souls.2000 years before the assassination John the Baptist explained Oscar Romero's unwitting self-eulogy -
He (Jesus) must increase and I must decrease (Jn 3:30)

Soul Snack 4/12 ... Wealth without trouble
There are many paths to add meaning and gain value to life.
Do not wear yourself out to get rich; have the wisdom to show restraint. (Prov 23:4)
The perennial adding of good is sown by the eyes into the heart. The seductive promise of a satisfying good to be gained can throw wise judgement to the wind - the gain may then receive a higher value than the method of achieving it - compromise, loss or even sin can then result
If the good things in life that we each desire are not gained by integrity and from the Lord's hand they will not enhance life but steal it.
An unpopular thought from that mighty giant of 19th Century Christian faith Hudson Taylor once taught - to borrow money implied that God had withheld some good from you. Even the pursuing of debt is having life stolen from the borrower, for the debtor becomes a slave to the creditor. The pursuing of debt is not usually gaining from the Lord's hand.
To seek to gain good apart from the Lord's hand only adds burdens and slavery to life.
Delight in the Lord and trust in His favors alone.
The blessing of the LORD brings wealth, and he adds no trouble to it. (Prov 10:22)
