    Soul Snack 233/13 ... A False Eden

We must shelter our hearts in no rival to God. ~ A.W. Pink

Babylon first arose after the flood on the original site of Eden.

Babylon has become the shelter for the unwitting Christian's heart, for Babylon is now worldwide. It is where we all live.

BUT Babylonian faith is inert, settled, and is far too comfortable between the Tigris and the Euphrates. It lives in a spurious Eden, and treks no unknown deserts. Uncertain steps are never taken.

Babylon requires no commitment, makes no outrageous claims of discipleship, and will eventually seize the soul. It simply reminds each inhabitant - be faithful to yourself alone.

    Yet there is another way...

He is no fool who gives up what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose. ~ Jim Elliot

This invitation to faith sets the believer pushing away curtains, facing towards unseen sunsets but seeing no giants.

The undying bellow for all believers continues to be 'flee Babylon my people, so that you will not share in her sins.' (Rev 18:4)

Babylon is both the dwelling of earthly security and the place of heavenly threat.

Babylon is fled when the thinking is renewed, the heart is replaced, and so the feet will dutifully follow. It is then the Babylonian believer becomes a Zionist as they trek to Jerusalem; they mount Calvary and offer their body as a living sacrifice to the one who owns it anyway. BUT the first faithful step in exiting  Babylon is a renewed mind.

Christians worldwide require renewed thinking - not faith that settles, but faith that can be stirred.

Christians should shelter from Babylon, not in it, for it is a false Eden.

  • The Bride & The GroomTweet This

    4 December, 2013

    Soul Snack 232/13 ...The Mausoleum

An ancient ecclesiastical monolith shadows the gates of the stadium called Christendom. This locked anachronism has only a handful of devotees waiting to enter. It is a Sunday morn. The doors glide as they are opened by a serious looking gent. His elegant robes with their bright seasonal adornment splash color and promise ceremony before the handful present. The faithful few silently enter this window to yesterday.

Bread is soon broken, wine is lightly sipped and right words are carefully chanted.

Mingling unseen is the evil this handful of church goers had long since ceased believing in.

As the calendar rotates through its weekly cycle the mausoleum welcomes particularly pride and riches Sunday after Sunday.

The Groom (Jesus) stands crestfallen in the doorway (at the back of the church for this is how the ancients built them) listening to those gathered reciting prayers to Him, but never turning to see Him.

Attention has been given to the activity about the Groom, but none have stopped, turned and seen Him.

The Groom stands behind them (He always has) but these devotees don't see this, for a mausoleum is the home of the dead.

The Groom came to create celebration, but the Bride still chooses a dead ceremony.

The Groom came to invite devotion, but the Bride still chooses a dead duty.

The Groom came to claim our attention, but the Bride still chooses a dead activity.

Jesus replaced ceremony with celebration, ritual with relationship and theology with truth.

GREAT MERCY is a prophetic analysis of a now ancient church written in modern parables .

  • Frustrated by the CrossTweet This

    3 December, 2013

Soul Snack 231/13 ... The Hovering Cross

Imagine a cross hovering waist high above the ground. It hovers perfectly parallel to the ground. There are no engines and it generates no blast of air. It is silent. (There is something most insecure about hovercraft - they can whisk away in a heart-beat, a mere blink of the eye.)

This cross is constructed from an unknown ancient lumber, and is covered in a still fresh human blood where a divine man had once lain. Blood drips irregularly from the cross. More often though it is wiped away, discarded to the floor by the countless believers gathered studiously around it.

The blood on the cross frustrates those gathered, for they are only interested in the words that the blood hides. Words carved into the timber by a strange hand. These students of the cross are more interested in the writings behind the blood, than the man who shed the blood. Yet curiously to these diligent students the blood reappears almost as instantly as it is swiped away.

You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me... (Jn 5:39-40)

These students are so clearly interested in the Words about the victim, rather than in the victim Himself. This has become the post-reformation state of the educated evangelical church.

O Lord that I would only be ever caught up in my Savior Himself and not the words about Him. Amen

  • Fermented Love & a Cancerous ChurchTweet This

    2 December, 2013

Soul Snack 230/13 ... Great Mercy

The Christian Church (Jesus' bride) is God's wonderful creation for the up-building and preservation of His saints.

BUT - have you ever detected a restless evil born without the church, but living within it? This restless evil injures those who belong to the Groom.

Christ's body is riddled with much cancer from all manner of abuses. Therefore the souls and bodies of believers bleed the wounding, and bear the scars.

Maybe these brief thoughts could also resonate with you?

Whether the sin lies within a Roman Catholic church that markets salvation, a proud Protestant church that thumps pulpits in a correct theological pride, or the Pentecostal church that elevates prophets who preach their own imaginations - this cancer multiplies!

Have you ever wondered why this is so, or how our good Lord addresses such issues?

What is He doing about such a fervent sickness, for He always remains the god of great mercy?

We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy. (Dan 9:18)

Have you ever considered how the good Lord feels at such unloving treatment of His saints and towards Himself?

These thoughts and so much more are addressed in SoulSupply's first book - GREAT MERCY.

GREAT MERCY is a book for those who have loved and then lost the fellowship of yesterday.

GREAT MERCY is a book for those whose heart has softened but love fermented.

GREAT MERCY is a book for those who are dry and dissatisfied by an elderly faith regime, still ministering with its hands in its pockets...

You may even find yourself in GREAT MERCY.

Could GREAT MERCY be for you?

Soul Snack 229/13 ... Of Worthlessness

For those who have lived around, or even within the trash cans of life...

The frequent absence of another's validation scorches the soul.

A heart hammered by abuse and eyes persistently watered from angry stares must only create debilitation within.

Those who are circumnavigated by rejection are dogged by the sense of worthlessness. A Damocles sword shadows their relationships while another event of rejection is painfully anticipated.

For those consistently weighed and measured by others' sour spirits or shallow minds, the demons are healthy - even tribal.

Penning torture, Louise Gluck echoes this depth of worthlessness:

What is my heart to you

That you must break it over and over...

    Practice on something else.

The Lord knows no sour spirit, and enjoys no shallow mind.

The Lord invites the undervalued to His lounge-room, and calls them into His family and service.

With a delight that that only heaven can hold the Father beams without restraint from His throne - you are my sons and daughters, I am your very proud father. Symbolically this father cups His warm hands to hold their worn hearts.#

It is the good Lord of heaven who sees the nobility in the ignoble, and tenderly measures their correct worth.

On that day HOLY TO THE LORD will be inscribed on the bells of the horses, and the cooking pots in the Lord's house will be like the sacred bowls in front of the altar. (Zech 14:20)

We hold that man is never so near grace as when he feels he can do nothing at all. ~ Charles Spurgeon

Worthlessness is no impediment to both the divine family and service, in fact it is the gateway to grace.

Soul Snack 228/13 ... Babylon Disengaged!

Seek the world's welfare but don't become entangled it.

This was God's sage counsel to His people through the prophet Jeremiah, while they lived in exile in Babylon. (See Jeremiah 29:4-14)

God's people to this very day still live in exile and still live in Babylon. They have no choice in it.

BUT the earth is no more a Christian's home than heaven can be satan's.

Come out of her (Babylon), my people, so that you will not share in her sins... and judgements - (Rev 18:4)

If like the Jews in exile, our lives are so integrated into the present world systems, if when God exacts judgement for our benefit we will not respond with the hallelujah chorus, we too will fall with it.(anon)

Any world system that draws us away from praising the living God and delighting in His presence must be torn away from us.

What world systems (Babylon) hold your attention at the expense of your faith?

Bend your knees, ask Him and God will both open your eyes and strengthen your heart.

It may be difficult to leave Babylon behind, but it is a far more difficult to live without God.

    Today's Soul Snippet:

"Ritual looks particularly attractive on a bright sunday morning." ~ quote from SoulSupply's 1st book - GREAT MERCY - coming very soon.

Soul Snack 227/13 ... Smokin' justice

Jesus' promise to the lost, the least, the last and the lonely...

Jesus' pledge to the despairing, the desperate, the debilitated and the downtrodden...

Jesus' pact with the rejected, the refused, the rebuffed and the renounced is...

A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out, till he leads justice to victory. (Matt 12:20)

Jesus knows when you will snap, He sees the blackness of all your bruises and He feels the haematoma swelling on your spirit...

Jesus sniffs your flickering column of smoke, He has witnessed the injustice that brought you to breaking point, but no malevolence of man will He permit to take you past breaking point.

Jesus will sustain you until He has re-established justice for you.

No injustice of man can ever over-rule the justice of God.

    Smoldering wicks don't die.
