Soul Snack 141/11 ... An Easy Answer - C

I wonder if Jesus was ever given to exaggeration?

Jesus certainly demonstrated a restrained and gentle approach to most of His conduct. Even the two clearing of the temple incidents that bracket His ministry were about zeal and not anger. Jesus would speak strongly to the troublesome and gently to the troubled, but was He ever given to exaggeration?

I am a most simple believer who believes simply His words are wholly true. So may I politely repeat - was Jesus ever given to exaggeration?

“Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. “I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him." (Mk 11:22-23)

"If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” (Lk 11:13)

"I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father." (Jn 14:12)

The above verses are all the words of Jesus -- ponder them before reading further. They are the most outrageous promises of all time; they must stretch the envelope of faith.

Did Jesus exaggerate when saying them?

Did Jesus tell lies?

Was Jesus just kidding with mere hyperboles of punchy rhetoric?

"NO" can be the only answer for a believer in the supernatural Son of God who died and then rose again.

Faith does not believe God for the inevitable but the impossible.

Today's Soul Snippet:

"The impossible is available to those who rely on the eternal."
