Soul Snack 33/11... An unkind Jesus?

There is a brief and perplexing interchange between Mary of Magdalene and the risen Lord. A now healthy hewn Messiah stands risen before one of his most devoted devotees. In a curiously uncharitable rebuff for the God who is love, He advises her not to hold onto Him.

Weeping and surprised to the point of shock she longs to hold tightly whom she loved -- but she can't!

Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God." (John 20:17)

It is good to cling to Jesus. It is correct to cling to Jesus, but the right Jesus is the only one to hold to.

The risen Jesus is wonderful, but the ascended Jesus is complete.

Hold on to the only one in Heaven who can take you there.

Praise of Jesus is the outward evidence of an inward relationship.
