Soul Snack 80/10 ... Keeping innocence

Pontius Pilate was in a purple pickle. Presented with both lies and the Lord - he could recognize the truth. Yet the weight of public pressure he felt had no interest in innocence only malevolence.

A weak-hearted Pilate passes an infintely stronger-hearted Jesus over to King Herod. He has ignored the innocence of Jesus, as Herod would also promptly copy.

Even on return to Pilate Jesus remained innocent. As with guilt, innocence too can't be removed.

"But with loud shouts they insistently demanded that he be crucified, and their shouts prevailed. So Pilate decided to grant their demand. He released the man who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, the one they asked for, and surrendered Jesus to their will."  (Lk 23:23-25)

Faced with deathly injustice, Jesus still chose life-giving innocence.

Jesus' innocence cost Him His life but He never lost it.

Jesus refused to release innocence on the altar of vengeance.

Jesus chose to lose His life rather than lose His innocence.
