SOUL SNACK 14 ... Dating God

'… be still and know that I am God ...' Ps 46:10a

For millennia man has conducted a quest for God. Man has climbed mountains. He has indulged in many various and even dangerous rituals. He has learnt asceticism and privation. He has written much and studied even more. He has even created god in his own image.

Since the close of the Dark Ages, the unspoken belief has been that God is found through study. But man has still failed to find God. Yet, as always, God confounds the wise.

God's knowledge is not gleaned through study. I do not enter relationships with another through studying books about them (or even looking at their photos!)

True knowledge of God (i.e. relationship) is found thru another 's' word, stillness! When I stop, it is then that I can get to know another. No relationship can grow with out deliberately invested time.

No wonder the enemy conspires to keep me busy. My devotions, service and church attendance are all hindered through my busyness, and I can't get to know God. I can even misunderstand those who I am too busy to get to know. Busyness takes me past God, stillness takes me into His presence. How can you organize 'a date' with God to-day?
