Soul Snack 8/131 ... Prayer Promotion

Heroes, I have selected all my life. As I child I followed those of myth and fable. The Hercules, Thor or Zeus always captivated my young imagination. The usual round of the then notable adults impressed me in my 'between age' years. But as an adult, I have endeavoured to judge more wisely and more discretely. James Outtram Fraser is my hero. Why, because he knew how to pray! Fraser was a missionary to Burma with the China Inland Mission at the start of last century.

Throughprayer (Fraser would teach) we take hold of the faithfulness of God. He knew that through prayeropposition to God's work is assaulted.

Dis-satisfactionis a catalyst for prayer. When what is contemporary (and I cannot change)is no longer acceptable to me, I am driven to my knees.

"When God creates a fresh desire in us, wecan always be confident that He is ready to move." J.O Fraser.

Prayeris the pathway of the dependent and faithful, toward their good future. A century ago, in the wild rain-forests of Burma, this man of prayer would 'wrestle' with God.

"... if the work seems to fail, then pray;if services etc fall flat, then pray still more; if months slip by with littleor no result, then pray, then pray still more and get others to help you."J.O.Fraser.

Fraser knew how to take dis-satisfaction to the Throne of Grace.

"Just as a plant may die for lack ofwatering, so may a genuine work of God die and rot for lack of prayer." J.OFraser.

Prayeris placing my-self in the presence of Jesus. It is the living out before Him of His choice for my life, and not mine.

Those close to Jesus will alwaysget to talk to Him. In prayer I express my recognition and unassailed need forHim.In prayer I flourish.

Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? Ifyou then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to yourchildren, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spiritto those who ask him!" Luke 11:11-13
