Cloned or Alone?#

Now I become myself.

It’s taken time, many years and places.

I have been dissolved and shaken,

Worn other peoples’ faces. ~ May Sarton

My late father-in-law would repeat that by three score years and ten humankind wearies of pretense, for their face-masks slide either raucously or silently away (depending upon what lies behind the mask).

Masks successfully clone us, and so present the face we assume others want to see. We have created an imposter, a false self was born.

Maybe it is by 70 that we each just become comfortable with self, or too lazy for the fiction?

How many fear the revelation of self, the opening up of a bona-fide me to possibly glaring or judgemental eyes?

Many of us don't live so well, we have learned from our childhood the fears to shield our authenticity because:

The child becomes father to the man. (William Wordsworth)

Christ reassures Paul and us it is actually OK that we never fully get our act together. “My grace is all you need; my power comes to its full strength in your weakness”. (2 Corinthians 12:9#)

Grasping your Christ (already accepted by Him) identity is the leaven of grace to rise strong each day. He sees no masks and loves each of US all the more.

HMM - Jesus is far more content with me as I am - than me.

A person's value never rests upon their productivity or another's opinion.

But the imposter is what he does. (Brennan Manning)

Jesus does not measure anyone against competitors. We all are accustomed to condemn ourselves with that old sulfur-stenched trick.

The treasure of you is you alone - whether in frailty of faith, seasons of self-doubt, in strength of soul or health of body for Jesus desires no clones.

I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well. (Psalm 139:14)
