Esau's Warning

Esau and Jacob were twins. They shared genes but not love.

Jacob seized an opportunity; he mounted a raid on Esau's future and prosperity.

Esau traded a bowl of stew to Jacob for his birthright. He sacrificed his future for his present.

The birthright was an honor to the first born male. It entitled him to receive the father's authority, and a double inheritance to other boys. It was a guarantee to a preferred and good future.

(Read his entire story from Genesis 25:19-35 here.)

Esau modelled perfectly the wrong way to value life.

Esau exchanged treasures for trinkets, and tomorrows for today.

Esau is about being swallowed by carnal desires, for the flesh swallows most men.

I can only get life right when I get Esau right.

Esau saw and then took the offer that stole his future. His impulse was for now and he had no wisdom for tomorrow.

Esau's decision was formed and his future sculpted, simply by his appetite for today.

From impulse loss is found and from lust tomorrow is spent.

Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. (Galatians 6:8)

Choose nothing today that will cost you tomorrow.#
