How to Measure the Impossible

The wrestle with ambition...

the visible inadequacy of supplies... or

the fears of absent skills have long hindered the divine call landing upon human ears.

BUT two thousand years ago the Apostle Paul wrote in his Second letter to the Corinthian church ...for we live by faith and not by sight. (5:7)

We are far more accustomed to living in doubt and visiting our faith, than living in faith and visiting our doubt. ~ Carmen Berry

The quote below was written 150 years ago by a frail, meek, small and faith-filled man. He was given to repetitive illness and the constant weakness that could only follow. He was no towering Goliath or hirsute Samson, but Moses or John the Baptist do come to mind as spiritual peers.

Charles Spurgeon described him as having no outward appearance of an individual who would be selected among others as the leader of a gigantic enterprise.

Hudson Taylor of China Inland MIssion fame lived and died by faith. Hudson took no prisoners when he wrote:

many Christians estimate difficulties in the light of their own resources, and thus attempt little and often fail in the little they do attempt. All God's giants have been weak men who did great things for God because they reckoned on His power and presence being with them.

When measuring your faith, never gauge the likelihood of supply and success by your own abilities. Rather plumb these likelihoods by the giver of all abilities and the owner of all supplies.

...every beast of the forest is mine and all the cattle on a thousand hills. (Psalm 50:10)

"Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase." ~ Martin Luther King Jr.
