Staring down Uncertainty
Is New Year the bright season of hopes soon fulfilled?
Or, is it a cave of hidden and dashed dreams too long held?
Waiting can be the home of a shaky peace or present pain. It is weighed by the time passed; often from an enforced patience.
There is a soul wrestle in waiting.
Charles Spurgeon knew this:
Anxiety does not empty tomorrow of its sorrows, but only empties today of its strength.
King David knew more than his fair share of waiting (he never did build Jerusalem's temple), and the internal strength it demanded.
He wrote:
Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord (Psalm 27:14)
David understood waiting well is the fruit of confidence; it is the glue that bonds yesterday to tomorrow; a living expression of faith.
Moving from yesterday to tomorrow can be strength sapping.
The heart of faith and the eyes of wisdom prayerfully choose for strength. It is then that the body persists while the remainder of the person screams desist.
If 2015 floats another year of waiting your way, take heart as Israel's warrior King did:
I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. (Psalm 27:13)
New Year may still be staring down uncertainty, but the Lord of Calvary is always your seat of comfort, for in waiting is the certain renewal of strength.
