The Gales of Hell

Soul Snack 27/14 ... "When God opens the windows of heaven to bless us, the devil will open the doors of hell to blast us." ~ Leonard Ravenhill.

Two years ago I enjoyed a brief spring solitude in a sub-alpine ski lodge. During a twenty-four hour period driving curtains of sleet threatened the north facing panes of glass. It bent the snow-gums into a tortured obedience. The storm was as ferocious as it was persistent.

The weather railed against the lodge as temptation rails against a Christian.

The gales of hell are too intended to bend you into a tortured obedience (or really disobedience to the Lord).

Indeed hell's gales seek to uproot you, and sever you from the nourishment of the rich soul our Lord planted you in, when He first called you by name.

Within temptation's storms the divine gardener has you tethered to His cross-shaped wooden stake. You need not bend as the gum trees did, for His tree is the secure anchor that held Christ on Calvary. It has already weathered the hate-soaked gales of hell.

I will not leave you comfort-less, I will come to you (John14:18)

As the Cross held Jesus high, it too can hold you high.

The Cross of Christ outlasts any tornado of torment.
