Diffusing Yesterday's Time Bombs ~ B

The past beats inside me like a second heart. ~ John Lagerfield

Life gets out of balance as the rhythm of the heart breaks beat.

Yesterday reaches into my heart today that I crash and burn, seared by events now gone.

The past, its sins, its injuries and its memories all conspire to upset the equilibrium of my today.

As a frequent and teasing song of lament, yesterday deceitfully boasts it rules the tomorrow too.

The past stomps upon my present in hob-nail boots. They are lined with steel toes to kick at my tomorrow.

My history promises that yesterday is as unshakeable as tomorrow's sun is guaranteed.

BUT for the forgiven and loved brother or sister to Christ:

the past is now a foreign country and not a tourist destination.

Visit the mightier Lord's presence, He won't explode because He is surrounded in faithfulness and seated in love.

Who is like you, Lord God Almighty? You, Lord, are mighty, and your faithfulness surrounds you. (Psalm 89:8)

Yesterday need not define tomorrow.

O Lord, I come to You to fetch strength. I find my tomorrow in You Lord; my breath, my identity, my purpose and my plans. I do not want my old ways. Without dwelling near You I can only carve a hollow image of what your tomorrow is for me - sure there is a breath, but there is little life if I don't have you Lord. May yesterday fade in me past its threatening shadows that the only light remaining is your burning lamp of love. This I seek, this I would have and there is nothing else I want. AMEN
