God Owes Me?

Scholars estimate there are between 3000 and 8000 Biblical promises. I guess the number is not of great importance, but God's faithfulness is.

Is a man ever entitled to any of them?

The risks of entitlement are many.

We all live in the golden age of rights. We see the heartaches, hear the vitriol or reel from another's self-assertions that injure and then injures again.

To take God for granted, to ever consider He owes me, no matter how brief this thought may be is to cheapen His grace at best, maybe even invite His wrath.

With an ever increasing volume the wicked are now honored and the righteous are lambasted. Yet, who can rightly claim God is indebted to them?

The disciple is not to think or live as the world which cannot:

  • tell their right hand from their left,
  • discern good from evil, or
  • reckon righteousness from wickedness.

'Therefore come out from them and be separate,' says the Lord. (2 Corinthians 6:17a)

The self-effacing, those who number their days aright will ever only echo Jesus words:

So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say -'we are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty'. (Luke 17:9)

Promises are the granting of privileges, not the acquisition of rights.
