Of Beauty & Bother

Soul Snack 170/12 ... Of Beauty & Bother

She broke the jar and poured the perfume on His head ... 'leave her alone,' Jesus said. 'Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me.' (Mk 14:3b& 6)

Pooled randomly among glistening shards across the floor was a moist and pleasing fragrance. Anonymous hands of kindness delivered a small fortune to a condemned man; her motivation as pure as the perfume was pleasant.

A smashed jar, a busy room and harsh hearts all clouded her generosity. This was the current recipe to assail another's goodness. The broken jar glaringly insignificant to the broken words voiced to her and over her.

Her philanthropy and selfless service could never be delivered unchallenged. Even amidst the humble there will always be the proud.

Jesus felt her soft-touch, received the service and knew full well this unnamed woman's loving heart.

You do not need a name known to man to be honored by Jesus. There is no pre-condition for another's agreement to be defended by Jesus. Society's correct values neither are required to receive His honor. This saviour would soon die and the opportunity for devotion gone. She would not lose this chance.

Opposition to goodwill knows no boundaries. However Jesus always knows the heart. To Him a heart of devotion is so infinitely superior to a mind of distaste.

Jesus still understands, He still delights in devotion and Jesus still sees beauty when others see bother.
