Royal Giving

Soul Snack 225/11 ... Royal Giving

On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh. (Matt 2:11)

Where were the wise men from, Babylonia or Arabia? Their home is as unknown as their identity is anonymous. Yet these nameless and faceless men are known very well by their search. For 2000 years their journey to seek the infant Jesus has been proclaimed and acclaimed. Non-Jews seeking a Jew, and kings canvassing the ancient near east for Christ remains noteworthy. (see also Ps 72:10 & Is 60:3)

These men (as with all men) were living a destiny to death until they found Jesus. God had made it clear how they could find Jesus. God wanted Him found by these men. They followed the star. God still makes the path to Jesus clear and wise men still seek Jesus.

With all the correct propriety and dignity of royalty they gave treasures and not trinkets to God now on earth.

These men were truly wise for they sought Jesus to give and not to get.

In fact the Magi were practising what Jesus was actually doing; giving and not taking.

‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ (Acts 20:35b)

Copy Jesus!
