Self-betrayal

Soul Snack 214/11 ... Self-betrayal

Abraham Lincoln reflected nearly two centuires ago - Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.

The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. (Matt 12:35)

The tongue is treacherous and the mouth disloyal. It is by the mouth that the inner man is betrayed. A wiser man may know himself by auditing the contents of his speech.

Words are both tools of freedom or tools of judgement to the speaker.

For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned. (Matt 12:37)

O Lord, set a guard over my mouth today, fix a sentry to my lips and a watchtower upon my tongue. It is simple to speak too much and listen too little. Silence is superior to silliness. My mouth is a cause of constant sin and the expression of who I am deep within. May the words of my mouth be now always pleasing to your ears. AMEN
