Of Fertility & Eternity

An unknown man falls into an unseen abyss. His life descends at an alarming rate.

He catches a hanging golden thread he is whizzing past.

This thread is strong, beyond imagination. It is suspended from heaven, but hangs lifeless in a very dark, deep and lonely pit.

He who clutches this thread now sees no light at all.

Enveloped under a fearful darkness, the thread to which he clings offers the only certainty.

Soon the slide down the rope abruptly stops. His hands collide with a knot at the end. He hangs with in an increasing pain.

A.B. Simpson wrote:

There are some spiritual conditions that cannot be accomplished in a moment. The breaking up of the fallow ground takes time; the frosts of winter are as necessary as the rains of spring to prepare the soil for fertility.

The rope is his only connection to life.

He casts his eyes aloft, yet there is no glimpse of even a dull beam.

The darkness will never remain his closest companion, although He knows it is his  now constant companion.

Soon he learns to only long for He who anchors the rope.

I have now concentrated all my prayers into one, and that one prayer is this, that I may die to self, and live wholly to Him. ~ Charles Haddon Spurgeon

As the deer pants for the water so my soul longs after You. (Psalm 42:1)
