Pascal's Wager

Soul Snack 152/12 ... Pascal's Wager

I should be much more afraid of being mistaken and then finding out that Christianity is true than of being mistaken in believing it to be true.

This statement of Pascal is a simple expression of Pascal's Wager; live life as if God exists, because if He doesn't you still can't lose.

There is no deficit to following Christ through my mortal coil. Even if there is no heaven and hell is a mere fable, faith has sustained me, and my imaginary friend has magically clasped my hand. Death can then only transport me to nothingness. BUT if I do not follow Christ and He does exist, then heaven and hell are true and I have not chosen a forever nothingness. Death will then only transport me to my ignorant default choice - hell.

The correct choice in the finite can issue an infinite gain.

Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve... but as for me and my household we will serve the Lord. (Joshua 24:15)
