A Daily Fortress

Soul Snack 213/13 ... A Daily Fortress

Psalm 86 is a fortress to dependent humility. It permits no breaches of pride and allows no misunderstandings of God.

It is a plea that grabs my soul and throws me knee-bound to the floor in an impotent trust.

This Psalm is my way for each day.

Psalm 86 is a prayer of King David ... if it is a prayer sufficient for Israel's king it surely is too for me (and you?).

Hear me, Lord, and answer me,
    for I am poor and needy.
Guard my life, for I am devoted to you;
    save your servant who trusts in you
You are my God; have mercy on me, Lord,
    for I call to you all day long.
Bring joy to your servant, Lord,
    for I put my trust in you.

You, Lord, are forgiving and good,
    abounding in love to all who call to you.
Hear my prayer, Lord;
    listen to my cry for mercy.
When I am in distress, I call to you,
    because you answer me.

Among the gods there is none like you, Lord;
    no deeds can compare with yours.
All the nations you have made
    will come and worship before you, Lord;
    they will bring glory to your name.
For you are great and do marvellous deeds;
    you alone are God.

Teach me your way, Lord,
    that I may rely on your faithfulness;
give me an undivided heart,
    that I may fear your name.
I will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart;
    I will glorify your name forever.
For great is your love toward me;

Daily, Psalm 86 has been the power of His word to protect my steps. It is the hobnails in my mountain boots and the guard rail when tempting slips occur.

I have found this Psalm to be the very best way to buttress my day and secure my heart.

I have prayed Psalm 86 for a long time now. It is my intention to continue this habit. Would you like to join in too?

(Maybe you too have a favorite Psalm - please share this so the world can know.)
