Finding applause

Soul Snack 16/11 ... Finding applause

Beams of light interrupted the darkness of this large auditorium. A well lit stage was so correct for the annual school speech and presentation evening.

Ritually each prize recipient glided across the stage to shake an anonymous hand and join the well-ordered queue of the recipients.

At completely undetermined intervals a punctilliar shout or cheering would arise from the plastic seats. The popularity of some students became instantly recognisable from their peer's response. Their success was celebrated and their presence applauded. Not many recipients received these unsolicited acclamations.

You may be the person similar to so many others that night.

You may never have been applauded.

You may never have been celebrated.

You may never have even won a prize.

You may have even been despised before birth.

However, at your birth on earth, heaven cheered and at your birth in heaven they held a feast.

The applause of earth may have eluded you but the acclamation of heaven is always there.

In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents. (Luke 15:10)
