The Boomerang Truth

Soul Snack 9/50 ... The Boomerang Truth

Summoning all the reserves that only a coward could muster, Peter utters his third Denial.

A vulnerable Jesus, a deserted Messiah, a forsaken forgiver surely longed for just one disciple not to be a deserter.

Yet, very recently this disciple had clearly flagged his inability at faithfulness, (Mk 14:37) asleep on the job!
Sin follows sleep if I am asleep on Jesus' watch.

The cock now crows a 2nd time. Thrice Peter had lied. Thrice Peter had betrayed. His regret now as instant as his betrayal.

Immediately the rooster crowed the second time. Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken to him: "Before the rooster crows twice you will disown me three times." And he broke down and wept. Mark 14:72

In fear and in faithlessness Peter had spoken lies.

In his pain the words of his Messiah and master returned.

The truth will always return to those who have previously sat with Jesus and listened to Him - no matter what sin they may find themselves in.

The resurrection means that, like Jesus, His words are still alive today and still able to return to me this day - no matter what sin I may have done.
