Is it a chill or a thrill to hear from God?
It can be a difficult task for the human spirit to discern the voice of Heaven, yet the Lord neither speaks not in secret nor fails to speak.
So how does God speak?
God speaks through:
- direct contact,
- His Holy Spirit (the counsellor),
- His prophets,
- His creation,
- His written word - The Bible and
- through Jesus - His incarnate Word.
God is not hiding and longs to be known and heard. This is why Jesus came.
Friendship is the first key to hearing God's voice. He seeks an up close and personal relationship with each of us. A friend's voice is known when we have spent time with them.
The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. (Jn 10:3-4)
Be thrilled, for as God spoke to Adam in Eden He speaks to you today.
