During 1851 while still at home in England, my hero Hudson Taylor penned - When I get out to Chna ... I shall have no claim on anyone for anything. My only claim will be on God. How important to learn, before leaving England, to move man, through God, by prayer alone. This is the most spiritually healthy position to be in.
It is in humility, self-understanding and then righteous prayer that so much more is achieved from your:
- knees than from your feet,
- confession of sin than confidence of self,
- attention to God than your activity for God and
- heart than your head.
Prayer is taking hold of the things of heaven and releasing the things of earth.
Prayer is placing claims on God so you don't have to place claims on man.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. (Phil 4:6)
