Whipping satan

Soul Snack 94/13 ... Whipping satan

Satan whispers in the believer's ear the challenges of doubt. He shouts sentences of condemnation. The devil drips evidence of divine silence. His evil desire is to prevent the believer from fervently dropping to their knees.

Elijah - a child of the wilderness, a rugged dweller of solitude accepted no such evil counsel, for he prayed in earnest! This troubler of kings had closed the heavens by prayer and by prayer he would open them again.

Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. (James 5:17)

Elijah prayed because he was assured that the Lord God lived and ruled over all. He prayed because he realized that God is almighty and with Him all things are possible. He prayed because he felt his own weakness and insufficiency and therefore turned to One who is clothed with might and is infinitely self-sufficient.#

A righteous man dammed the heavens and then in prayer wound open their spillway.

The Lord casts no doubt and throws no accusations; He wants the righteous to pray! The Lord tells no lies when He says:

The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. (James 5:16c)

"Pray often for prayer is a shield to the soul, a sacrifice to God and a scourge to satan." ~ John Bunyan
