Soul Snack S9/18 ... Visiting God - A

'He who dwells in the shelter of the most high will rest in the shadow of the almighty' Ps 91:1

In 1956 missionary Jim Elliot at age 29 was martyred by the Auca Indians in South America. His wife was now a widow and his very young daughter fatherless.

Elisabeth Elliot (his wife) knew the reality of the above verse. (Despite what circumstances may have looked like.)

To live close to the creator is to know permanent provision. He invites us to this closeness. He wants to share his shelter with us. He wants this to be permanent (i.e a dwelling place).

"God does not want to be our hotel but our home. "

This invitation is even sweetened by inducements. When I shelter with Him, I am able to rest. Rest is the absence of that which disturbs my peace. It is freedom from the enemy. This God desires for us this day.

He yearns for a relationship of close proximity with us. He invites us to stand in His shadow. In His shadow is shelter. Away from God I am only subject to all the enemy would do to me. Away from God there is no shelter. Closeness brings provision, protection and peace that is permanent. These are not found in hotels. Heaven is no hotel, it is HOME.
