REMEMBER the old joke of schooling - the three 'R's ~ reading, riting & rithmatic?
Well another three 'R's also apply to the marathon Christian schooling of avoiding sin.
Having drunk the pleasant (but sinful) poison of temptation and imbibed fully from the bottom of the chalice, what hope can remain?
How can righteousness ever be retrieved from sin, let alone from repeated sin?
There are three 'R's that rescue from sin :
- Repentance ~ the seeking of forgiveness today that tomorrow may hold no guilt and satan own no foothold.
- Resist ~ satan is like the door-to-door salesman of yesterday, resist him and he will flee.
- Remember ~ recall the debt Jesus paid and His mighty works for you, as this honors Him and refreshes the soul. Prayerfully rehearse how God has already carried you upon wings of eagles; only thankfulness can then result. BUT also recall the suffering your sin has brought for he who has suffered is done with sin.
What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? (Roms 6:1-2)
O Lord, would my soul scream to you this day and every day, that I may not forget the love you have showered upon me all the days of my life. AMEN
