The Church MUST Pray

Lancashire born Samuel Chadwick (1860-1932) had a fire in his belly to light many souls. Ordained in 1890 as a Methodist minister he was direct in speech, a man comfortable with not being backward in coming forward.

He wrote of prayer and church ministry:

Satan dreads nothing but prayer...

The Church that lost its Christ was full of good works.

Activities are multiplied that meditation may be ousted, and organizations are increased that prayer may have no chance.

Souls may be lost in good works, as surely as in evil ways.

The one concern of the devil is to keep the saints from praying.

He fears nothing from prayer-less studies, prayer-less work, prayer-less religion. He laughs at our toil, mocks at our wisdom, but trembles when we pray.

And two final thoughts:

  1. 'Just as a plant may die for lack of watering, so may a genuine work of God die and rot for lack of prayer'. ~ James Outram Fraser (1886 - 1938, missionary to the Lisu people in Burma)
  2. 'Investing in life and service without prayer is equal to placing your money in a bank run by thieves. All that is given will be lost'. ~ Michael Cartwright

Today's Soul Snippet:

' An earnest desire in spiritual things is a bell ringing for prayer.' ~ J.O. Fraser
