The Perfect Storm Upon Grace

There is nothing new under the sun. What transpired two thousand years ago is repeated to this day.

About eighteen months ago, in a small local cafe I sat stunned with a troubled brother. I listened. Silently I withered inside as a He jettisoned His obedience to Jesus. Blithely he justified continuing in immorality and its bondage because Jesus understood his problems that led to these sins. He had not drawn breath until he ended his sulfur stenched logic with:

  • I am already saved so
  • my salvation does not depend upon my behavior so
  • Jesus saved me knowing too all my future sins, so
  • I can continue to sin until I die because grace keeps me saved.

'GOD FORBID' is the Apostle Paul's strong response; his exclamation mark to such wicked reason.

What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? God forbid! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? (Romans 6:1-2 SoulSupply version)

Salvation is NEVER permission to sin.

A perfect storm of both sin's tolerance and therefore rebellion now coincides within the evangelical faith. It's spray saturates Christ's bride - His church.

There are godless men who have slipped on board and changed the grace of God into a license for immorality. The Christian decks are sloping perilously.

For certain individuals whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into a license for immorality... (Jude 4)

Jesus' blood flowed to free each believer from sin and its bondage, not to enable sin's permission and power.
