The Spirit of this Age

Soul Snack 94/14 ... Where is the spiritual longing that seizes a man and constrains his hands from being soiled?

Who is he that thirsts for things not of this world; depths only plumbed by the humble and meek?

What does it take for a man to cast all else aside in a deliberate abandon to search and seek the Lord's presence?

Who will deny himself honor and bellow alongside Moses to the Lord - Show me your glory?

The spirit of this age is the spirit of entitlement. It is a thief and a robber. It promises to give but in the paradox of deceits only takes. For the disciple of Jesus is robbed of spiritual longing and the pleasures of living poor in spirit. Entitlement replaces the sight of eternity with the tokens from factories, and whisps of the consumer winds.

Of grasping there is no end, and of losing there is no stopping.

Oh that the things of this day be judged as hollow as an empty cistern, that the delights of Heaven's tomorrow may never be forfeited.

There is a good zeal which separates from evil and leads to God and everlasting life.' ~ St Benedict

Mankinds' heart, Christians' hearts still worship what they can see - not what they can't!

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. (Colossians 3:1)

Today's Soul Snippet:

"Son your life will afford you many opportunities to say nothing. My advice to you is to take them all." ~ anon
